Liquid from ear HELP what should I do?

I have a little painful stop inside my ear but it is leaking, I mean to the point where it visabley (sp) wets things. It smells funny then crusts, I cant stop my desire to pick all of the scaps (which are a gold color) off and it is super painful. Does this sound like I should go to the DR? my mom was telling me people get blemishes in their ears and they can drain like that (thats why there is the painful spot). But is this what an ear infection is like? I have a two year old and she has only had one ear inection and I am 27 and Im sure have had one as a child but I do not remember what they are like. Should I make an a appt or does this sound like its a blemish and its ok to leak?
